Reach New Heights With Our Rock Climbing Summer Camps

Rock Climbing is a fun and exhilarating sport that continues to grow in popularity.  The many benefits it offers both physically and mentally, make it the perfect summer activity to get your kids off the couch and outside for some fresh air!

Equinox Guiding Service is excited to announce that our Rock Climbing Summer Camps are open for enrollment!  Now offering full-day sessions for kids ages 10 to 15 years old, space is limited so be sure to reserve your spot today!

  • Each morning our guides will provide the necessary safety equipment as they explain the activities and objectives for the day.  From there, the adventure begins with a short hike to one of the climbing areas located just across the street.

Upon arrival at our outdoor classroom, kids will focus on learning new skills like knot-tying, belaying, rappelling, and climbing movement.  After the lesson, our guides will provide a safety briefing and demonstration before our young climbers break up into teams to practice their new skills.

Over lunch, the guides will lead the group in a discussion where we can check in on our feelings, observations, challenges, and goals.   Campers can ask any questions they have about the day's lesson, share stories of past adventures, and get to know each other better.

After lunch is over, the kids will enjoy some ‘Open Climb’ time. They’ll partner up with other climbers and continue to practice their new skills on several different climbing routes, under the supervision of the guides.

At the end of the day, the group will hike back down to Barrett’s Cove Beach where they can cool off with a quick dip in Megunticook Lake or take in the relaxing view of Mount Battie while waiting to be picked up.

  • Below is a list of personal items each climber should bring with them.

Backpack (big enough to carry all of your personal items, plus harness, helmet, and climbing shoes)

Sturdy close-toed hiking boots or sneakers (no sandals, flip-flops, or crocs)

    2-3 liters of water

    Lunch and snacks

    Weather-appropriate clothing (dress in layers)

    Raincoat or poncho

    Sunscreen

    Bug Spray

    Hand sanitizer or wipes

    Camera

*Please let your guide know if your child has any allergies or medical conditions we should be aware of.

  • We will meet each morning and afternoon at the Barrett’s Cove Public Beach parking lot, located on Beaucaire Avenue in Camden.

    Drop-off time - 8:00 am

    Pick-up time - 12:00 pm

While we understand that things occasionally come up that are beyond our control, it’s important that you arrive on time, so that we can keep the group on schedule.  If for some reason you are running late or aren’t able to make it,  please let one of your guides know as soon as possible

  • The movement of climbing can feel surprisingly natural, especially for kids.  It engages the arms, legs, and core muscles while improving balance and flexibility, making it an excellent form of exercise. The wide range of climbing routes to choose from at Camden Hills provides a variety of challenges suitable for everyone, regardless of their athletic abilities.

Rock Climbing also provides a variety of mental benefits.  Your child will gain self-confidence as they learn to solve problems, assess challenges, and manage the stresses associated with stretching the limits of their comfort zone.

In addition to their mental and physical well-being, Rock Climbing Summer Camp is a great opportunity for your kids to hone their social skills and make new friends.  They’ll learn the importance of good communication and teamwork as they build trusting relationships with their fellow climbers in a fun and supportive environment.

Whether you’re a mid-coast local or visiting Maine on your summer vacation, Rock Climbing Summer Camp is an excellent way to keep your kids active and engaged with an experience they’ll never forget.
